Motherhood is Kingdom Work

If you had asked me a few years ago what my greatest ministry was, I probably would've said leading in the church, children’s ministry, serving people, or running my business. While all of those things are important, I've come to realize that the greatest ministry God has entrusted me with isn't one that happens on a stage—it's the one happening every single day within the walls of my home.

My Battle Behind the Scenes

Back in May, I attended a conference where one of the speakers shared how motherhood can feel heavy, overwhelming, and exhausting. As she spoke, I looked around the room and saw so many moms nodding in agreement. Then I had a realization that honestly caught me off guard.

For the first time since becoming a mom, I didn't feel that way.

I almost couldn't believe I was thinking it because that hadn't always been my story.

I've struggled with both pregnancy depression and postpartum depression and anxiety. There were seasons where I loved my children with everything in me, but I struggled to love motherhood. I carried so much guilt because I thought something was wrong with me. I wondered why everyone else seemed to embrace motherhood so naturally while I felt like I was barely keeping my head above water.

Those were dark seasons that I wouldn't wish on anyone. There were days when just getting out of bed felt like a victory. I questioned myself constantly, and I often felt like I was failing at the one thing I had always dreamed of becoming—a mom.

A Holy Calling

Somewhere along the journey, God began changing my heart. It wasn't overnight, and it wasn't because life suddenly became easier. My kids didn't magically stop arguing, the laundry didn't disappear, and my schedule certainly didn't slow down. What changed was my perspective.

The Lord gently reminded me that He didn't accidentally make me a mother. He chose me to be their mother.

“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.”

Psalms 127:3 NLT

Those words began to sink into my heart in a way they never had before. My children aren't obstacles keeping me from my purpose—they are part of my purpose.

Then I found myself returning again and again to Deuteronomy 6:6–7:

“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.”

God never asked me to create a picture-perfect home. He simply asked me to faithfully point my children to Him in the ordinary moments of everyday life.

My Ministry Starts at Home

Everything changed when I realized that raising my children isn't something I do instead of ministry.

It is my ministry.

That truth brought a peace I can't fully explain.

Instead of constantly wondering if I was doing enough for God, I realized I was already living out the calling He had placed on my life. Every bedtime prayer, every Bible story, every difficult conversation, every correction given in love, every homeschool lesson, every meal around the table, and every hug after a hard day became opportunities to disciple the little hearts God entrusted to me.

Do I still have hard days? Absolutely.

Motherhood is still messy. There are sibling arguments, endless laundry piles, interrupted conversations, sleepless nights, and moments where my patience wears thin.

But those moments don't feel meaningless anymore.

They feel holy.

The Eternal Impact

The world doesn't usually applaud motherhood. There aren't promotions for changing diapers or awards for reading the same Bible story for the hundredth time. Much of what mothers do happens quietly, behind closed doors, without recognition.

But God sees it all.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

‭‭—Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes "doing good" looks like folding another basket of laundry while praying over your children. Sometimes it looks like apologizing after losing your patience. Sometimes it's choosing grace when you're running on little sleep. Those moments may seem ordinary, but they're producing fruit that could last for generations.

Every seed of faith you plant matters.

Every prayer you whisper matters.

Every act of obedience matters.

If You Needed This Reminder Today...

Maybe you're reading this while rocking a baby who won't sleep. Maybe you're homeschooling, chasing toddlers, driving teenagers everywhere, or wondering if anything you're doing is making a difference.

I want you to know that I see you because I've been there.

More importantly, God sees you.

If you're walking through postpartum depression, pregnancy anxiety, or a season where motherhood feels incredibly hard, know that you're not alone. I've been there too. Those struggles don't make you a bad mom, and they don't disqualify you from the calling God has placed on your life.

And if, like me, God has begun changing your perspective, embrace it with everything you have.

Motherhood isn't keeping you from your calling.

For many of us, motherhood is the calling.

The Kingdom isn't built only from public spaces. It's built around dinner tables, in bedtime prayers, during car rides, while memorizing Scripture, and through countless ordinary moments where we faithfully point our children to Jesus.

That is Kingdom work.

A Prayer for Moms

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of motherhood. Thank You for trusting us with precious lives that belong to You. For every mom reading this who feels weary, unseen, or overwhelmed, remind her that You see every sacrifice and every act of faithfulness. Give her peace in the chaos, strength for the hard days, and confidence in the calling You've placed on her life. Help us remember that our homes are our first ministry and that every ordinary moment can have eternal impact. May we raise children who know You, love You, and follow You all the days of their lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.
